              Welcome to Congregation Or Shalom

Congregation Or Shalom of Orange, Connecticut, invites you to celebrate Judaism in our friendly, family-oriented synagogue.

Experience our "services-in-the-round" which enhance our sense of community and inclusiveness. Stand beside us in our commitment to social action--Tikun Olam--repairing and healing the world. Join us as we discover the ancient texts of our heritage and the light they shed on the issues of today.

Congregation Or Shalom is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, drawn to tradition as well as aspiring to innovation. We welcome interfaith families, and our religious school welcomes interfaith families raising Jewish children. Our members reside in the greater New Haven area, Eastern Fairfield County, and the Naugatuck Valley, and encompass a spectrum of ages, political orientations and levels of Jewish observance. Yet, we all feel connected.

The subject of Sunday’s Kristallnacht program was the role King Christian X played in Denmark’s rescue of its Jewish population during WWII. The story was retold and then celebrated by the presentation of a U.S. Senate Certificate of Special Recognition to Denmark’s Ambassador. The certificate reads: “Presented in memory of King Christian X, who emboldened the Danish people to resist Nazism and rescue its Jewish community.”

                            We Stand With Israel!

As always, our Jewish community stands proudly together with Israel at the frontline of Jewish security as they stand up to terror. We pledge to help those in harm’s way as we pray for a swift end to these hostilities and trauma so our family in Israel can return to their daily lives in peace.

Israel will prevail, and the Jewish people will stand together as we always do. Am Yisrael chai.
