Congregation Or Shalom is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, drawn to tradition as well as aspiring to innovation.  We welcome interfaith families and our religious school welcomes interfaith families raising Jewish children. Our members reside in the greater New Haven area Eastern Fairfield County, and the Naugatuck Valley, and encompass a spectrum of ages, political orientations and levels of Jewish observance.  Yet, we all feel connected!

Latkes and Magic

Friday, December 15, 2017 - Join us on for a fun-filled evening for Hanukah celebration. We will light the menorah in the lobby at 7 PM and then gather in the Sanctuary for a brief Friday night service.  [ more ]


Orange Community Thanksgiving Service

On Sunday evening, November 19th, it was Congregation Or Shalom's turn to host the annual Orange Thanksgiving service. Over 250 people of all faiths participated. The service featured an interfaith children's choir, led by Bryan Campbell and Cindy Chandler of the Orange Congregation Church.  [ more ]

Coffee & Learn with the Rabbi

Wednesdays, Starting December 13 Our weekly "Coffee & Learn" classes, led by the rabbi,will take place at the usual time: Wednesdays, from 11am until 12 noon.  All are invited!  [ more ]


YAHAD COMMUNITY RELIGIOUS SCHOOL IS COMING!

The start of the school year is just around the corner, and we have some exciting news to share: We're delighted to announce the opening of YAHAD, a Sunday morning community Hebrew School for grades Pre-K through 7. [ more ]


Need a ride?

If you are unable to drive yourself to services, the Chesed / Social Action Committee can arrange transportation for you. This transportation will be provided by a member of the congregation or through Interfaith Volunteer Care Givers. Annual Campaign

The Or Shalom Annual Campaign FY2017/18 is on! The Annual Campaign is one way we help keep dues lower than other local congregations. It allows us to distribute the financial burden voluntarily, to those that may be better able to afford it, in so doing lessening the burden on those who may be less able to do so. Participating is indeed a mitzvah. [ more ]


Ten Commandments of the Kitchen

1) Use of our kitchens must be scheduled in advance with the Synagogue office.

2) Only unopened foods displaying a recognized Kosher symbol, or foods prepared by a recognized Kosher caterer are allowed into the Synagogue. [ more ]
